Abiding Acres Farm Brand Board

Many years ago, in a home just a couple of miles from our shop, a seed was planted in the heart of a little girl. She drew pictures and made crafts and then set up a pretend shop in her bedroom.

That seed lay forgotten for many years until that little girl grew up and had a baby of her own. After learning of her son's diagnosis, the seed began to grow, slowly and painfully, still hidden deep within her heart, yet always reaching towards the sun.

And then one day, the seed was gone, replaced by a tender shoot that had broken free of the soul where it had lay hidden for so many years. The tiny plant grew with each passing day, strengthened by the trials and storms of life, its roots digging deeper into the soil that once held it captive.

Abiding Acres Farm is a small, mother-owned business built upon the premise that the seeds nurtured today will grow into the opportunities of tomorrow.  We believe that everyone has purpose and holds intrinsic value and that includes Tyler, my adult son who is profoundly impacted by autism and anxiety. When all outside support systems fell away, I founded this business with the vision of providing multiple growth opportunities for him while remaining in a safe, nurturing environment.

Our Story

Our home was once part of a larger farm, today we have our farmhouse situated on four acres of that farmland. The shop sits upon an old foundation that once supported a farm outbuilding. The building fell in on itself years ago, but I really wanted to give the foundation new purpose. It now supports the shop and a small greenhouse.

Our shop is an Amish-built shed. We finished the inside ourselves.  All the wood is repurposed and donated from three Perry County farms and the metal roofing is from my dad's garage. Aside from my son's workbench, every other piece of furniture is second-hand, vintage or was someone's "trash" that we upcycled to become our treasure. In Abiding Acres Farm fashion, we believe often what some may consider worthless actually has value and purpose when given the opportunity.

Right near the shop is a massive, beautiful white oak tree ... one of many on our property. There are flower beds and gardens to the side and behind the shop. Creating a healthy ecosystem on our property that supports native wildlife, as it is intended to be, holds the same meaning to me as the idea of working to create a healthy ecosystem for my son with disabilities ... when we provide what is truly needed, life thrives.

Individuals like my son are rarely given the opportunity to grow once they enter the adult world. Our inviting business holds a greater purpose of planting those seeds and providing opportunities for growth because everyone has value and purpose.  Ty has the opportunity to stock shelves and in time, hopefully learn to work with customers and in the workshop portion of the shop is Ty's workbench.

When people enter our shop for the first time, they are always surprised at how inviting and wholesome it feels. The walls and shelves display antique and vintage items, mostly belonging to my parents and grandparents. There are many unique items to feast your eyes on before perusing the products for sale. Our shop may be smaller than most, but you'll want to return for its peaceful atmosphere, which our customers have told us they always notice and appreciate.
